H&D: What role or position do you currently hold and how did you become so well known? Randall: I am the principal of a lighting design company, which I started in 1979 here in San Francisco, CA. I used to do everything when it came to lighting, whether residential, commercial, interior or exterior, but I found that I needed to become specialized. About 10 years ago, I stopped doing commercial and now I perform only residential architectural lighting design.

I look at it like this, there are so many contractors/ designers that take the “do it all” approach……it’s like Denny’s! They have everything on the menu, but nothing really stands out as being a signature plate? I see my business as if I’m the fine dining French restaurant of residential lighting. People are excited about what they are going to get…they expect good things….something special and wonderful and they are willing to wait for an opening. So, back to the question of what role do I hold……I’m the "King of San Francisco"!
