Once your clients choose task lighting, find out what they'll be
using it for before installation. Follow these other task lighting
guidelines.
"There is no one light fixture that can give
you everything you need to illuminate a room properly," says
Randall Whitehead, lighting designer and author of
Residential Lighting, A Practical Guide. He advocates
layering light by using a variety of light sources to create
a flexible, inviting space for clients. A well designed
lighting plan must include four types of light: ambient
lighting, which creates a warm glow that fills a room;
accent lighting, which gives depth and dimension to an area;
decorative lighting, which adds sparkle to a space; and task
lighting. Task lighting is the workhorse of illumination,
and no lighting plan is complete without it.
