What is the most exciting or important external lighting project you've seen in the past year in the US or UK?
Anything done by Jonathan Spear's Company in the UK. He is 'the bomb'.

What was the most exciting use of external lighting that you've seen from the rest of the world in the past year?
Look at the work of Leni Schwendinger. Her company is called Light Projects, out of New York City. She paints with light.

Who's doing the most interesting and innovative external lighting in the UK?
Jonathan Spear's company.

Who's doing the most interesting and innovative external lighting overseas?
Look at the Palace of the Lost City in Sun City, South Africa. The lighting was done by Ross DeAlessi out of Seattle, Washington.

Where do you see advances or trends in light use going in the next five years?Ý
LED (light emitting diode) technology. A company called Color Kinetics in the United States is developing an MR 16 lamp, using LEDs that fit into existing exterior fixtures. It's rated for 75,000 hours and has a color temperature of 5,000 degrees Kelvin.

What's likely to be the biggest issue affecting lighting design and implementation in the next five years?
Energy efficiency and Maintenance, although these have always been issues. The difference is the implementation of LED technology. I think LEDs will ring the death knell for fiber optics

What material or technological advances being made now do you think will filter down and find wider application in lighting?
Replacement of all MR 16 lamps with LED versions and greater use of fluorescent sources for landscape lighting.
